The Emperor’s New Clothes!

Everyone knows the Hans Christian Andersen story of “The Emperor’s New Clothes.”

A couple of smooth-talking swindlers convince an egotistical king that he has just purchased the most gorgeous, elaborate, royal suit of clothes ever stitched together by human hands. Only those who are “hopelessly stupid” or “unfit for their position” can’t see the beautiful clothes.

In reality, of course, the weavers have stripped the Emperor naked and he is parading around in his birthday suit. Yet the Emperor is so convinced he is wearing royal robes that none of his servants or secretaries, cohorts or companions will dare tell him the truth.

It is not until a little child blurts out the fact, “But he isn’t wearing anything at all!” that the Emperor sees and grasps his state of undress.

Saint Paul’s words to the Colossians (3:12-14) are like that child’s voice today. They tell us clearly what our naked faith looks like, and they describe the garments worn by a true Christian emperor who sincerely cares about his people:

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.”

What do St. Paul’s words say to YOU in YOUR life and in the world YOU live in?

GOD’S MIRACLES START TO HAPPEN WHEN YOU GIVE AS MUCH ENERGY TO YOUR DREAMS AS YOU DO TO YOUR FEARS!
