Johnny Carson once interviewed an 8-year old boy who rescued two of his friends from a coal mine in West Virginia.
Carson asked the boy if he went to church or if he went to Sunday school. The boy replied that he did.
“What did you learn last Sunday?” asked Johnny. “It was the wedding feast at Cana where Jesus turned water into wine.”
“What did you learn from that?” asked Carson.
“If you’re going to have a wedding, be sure to invite Jesus,” replied the boy.
I wonder about what the boy said about inviting Jesus to the wedding or into my life. Sometimes my life is a real mess or it even looks like a wreck.
When I listen long and hard and especially at 3:00 AM, I can hear Jesus calling me into his life.
Jesus’ life isn’t boring or purposeless or static like my life so often is.
Jesus’ life is wild and exhilarating and unpredictable.
Someday Jesus will make the call, the final call….Summoning you and me to our eternal home.
How recently have YOU invited Jesus into YOUR life?
I USED TO ASK JESUS TO HELP ME. THEN I ASKED JESUS IF I COULD HELP HIM. I ENDED UP BY ASKING JESUS TO DO HIS WORK THROUGH ME!
Fr. Med, I read the January 15th poem from your book during our prayer time before food distribution at our St. Vincent de Paul food pantry this morning. It was so timely and inspiring. Thank you for writing your book and sharing your poems! Dave A POEM A DAY TO PRAY 2025. It’s like a mini-retreat a day: https://treatsforthesoul.org/a-poem-a-day-to-pray/
