Why Heaven Is Full!

A grandmother was celebrating her 50th wedding anniversary with her husband, their family and their friends.

A granddaughter asked her about her secret to a long and happy marriage.

The grandmother explained, “On my wedding day I decided to make a list of ten of my husband’s faults which, for the sake of the marriage, I would overlook and forgive.”

One of the guests asked for some examples of those faults. The grandmother replied, “To tell you the truth, I never did get around to making the list. But whenever my husband did something that made me hopping mad, I’d say to myself, ‘Lucky for him, that’s one of the ten!'”

Lucky for us that God has made a list of those faults which God is willing to forgive.

Lucky for us that every possible sin imaginable is on that list. God is infinitely loving and forgiving. There is nothing YOU can do that God is not willing to forgive.

What was something that YOU did that worried YOU that God would not forgive?

IF GOD DIDN’T FORGIVE SINNERS…..HEAVEN WOULD BE TOTALLY EMPTY!

My Commentary:
Why Heaven Is Full reminds us of the extraordinary power of forgiveness—both in human relationships and in our relationship with God. The grandmother’s wisdom, built over fifty years of love and life, reveals a profound truth: that choosing in advance to forgive is one of the most life-giving decisions we can make. Her method wasn’t just clever—it was holy. By deciding from the start that she would extend grace, she created space for love to grow without being choked by resentment.

Her secret is also God’s way. While the grandmother pretended to keep a list of ten faults, God truly keeps no list at all. Scripture tells us that God “remembers our sins no more” (Isaiah 43:25). God’s forgiveness is not rationed or earned. It is poured out freely on all who ask for it.

So why is heaven full? Not because we are perfect, but because God is merciful. Not because we deserve it, but because grace is God’s gift. The greatest tragedy is not that we sin—it’s that we think our sin is beyond God’s reach. But the cross proves otherwise. Every sin, no matter how dark or shameful, is one God is willing to forgive.

The question is not whether God will forgive us. The question is whether we will trust that forgiveness enough to forgive others—and ourselves.

My Prayer Reflection:
Merciful God,
Thank You for being a God of grace and not a keeper of grudges.
You see our brokenness, our mistakes, our worst moments—
And You still choose love. You still choose us.

Like the wise grandmother, help us to live in the freedom of forgiveness.
Teach us to let go of offenses instead of collecting them.
Help us to build relationships not on perfection, but on mercy.

Lord, sometimes we carry things we are too ashamed to speak aloud.

We worry that what we’ve done puts us outside Your love.
But You remind us: nothing is beyond Your grace.
So we come with honest hearts—
Asking not just for forgiveness, but for healing.

And may we, in turn, extend that same grace to others:
Our spouses, our family, our friends, our enemies.

Because if You didn’t forgive sinners—heaven would be empty.
But because You do, there’s a place for all of us.
And for that, we give thanks.
Amen.
