We all have skepticism in us. Think about these phrases:

“Open wide now, this isn’t going to hurt a bit.”

“It is easy to assemble. Just follow the directions.”

“Please, daddy, I’ll walk him. I’ll feed him. I’ll do everything.”

“Hi. I’m from the IRS and I’m here to help you.”

“Mother is only staying for two weeks. You’ll hardly know she is in the house.”

People may come to Jesus with some of that same skepticism. That’s OK, as long as we are willing to listen.

Because gradually people realize that when Jesus opens his mouth, the only thing that comes out is the truth.

How are YOU able to handle ALL of the truth that comes to YOU from the teachings and the parables of Jesus?

THE WILL OF GOD WILL NEVER TAKE YOU WHERE THE GRACE OF GOD WILL NOT PROTECT YOU!

My Commentary:

We all carry a little skepticism. Life has trained us that not every promise delivers. “This won’t hurt a bit.” “Just follow the directions.” “I’ll take care of everything.” We smile. We nod. But inside, we brace ourselves.

Experience has made us cautious.

So it is not surprising that some people approach Jesus the same way. They wonder if His promises are too good. They question whether forgiveness can really be complete, whether peace can truly endure, whether love can actually overcome fear. Skepticism is not the enemy of faith. Dishonesty is. A guarded heart can still be an honest heart.

The Gospels show us that many came to Jesus unsure. Thomas doubted. Nicodemus came at night. Others stood at a distance, listening carefully before stepping closer. Jesus did not shame them for their questions. He simply spoke.

And when He spoke, something remarkable happened. His words did not unravel over time. They did not require fine print. They did not collapse under scrutiny. The more people listened, the more they discovered that when Jesus opened His mouth, truth came out. Not manipulation. Not exaggeration. Not spin. But truth.

Gradually, skepticism gives way to trust — not because we are naïve, but because we have tested what we have heard. Faith grows when we dare to listen long enough to recognize a voice that never lies.

We may begin with raised eyebrows. That is human. But if we stay and listen, we may discover that in a world full of broken promises, there is One whose every word can bear the weight of our lives.
