TWO STORIES FROM LIZON, HAITI
On May 24, 2024, people from around the world were shocked to learn that Davy and Natalie Lloyd, a young missionary couple from Missouri along with their Haitian aide were brutally murdered in Lizon, Haiti. The violence and the brutality of the gangs in and around Port-au-Prince continues to be horrific. Our hearts and our prayers go out to this young couple and their companion who dedicated their lives to serving the Lord and helping the poorest or the poor.
In Lizon, the same town where this atrocity happened, a new Our Lady of Wisdom School was finishing its spring semester. In 2020, through the great generosity of my former parishioners and friends, $141,000 was raised to build Our Lady of Wisdom School. When the Sister Principal asked if people could help with the $35 monthly tuition for students who could not afford to come, $24,000 was raised. So for $8,000 a year 30 new students have been able to attend this fine school. I have pledged that if they work hard and maintain at least a B average, they can stay in school until they graduate high school, which is $50 a month.
