The famous actor Gregory Peck was once standing in line with a friend, waiting for a table in a crowded Los Angeles restaurant.

They had been waiting for some time, the diners seemed to be taking their time eating and new tables weren’t opening up very fast. They weren’t even that close to the front of the line.

Peck’s friend became impatient, and he said to Gregory Peck, “Why don’t you tell the maitre d’ who you are?” Gregory Peck responded with great wisdom. “No,” he said, “if you have to tell them who you are, then you aren’t.”

My Commentary:

This story captures a timeless truth about humility and authentic greatness.

Gregory Peck understood that true worth never needs to be announced or demanded. Those who possess real dignity, talent, or virtue let their character speak for itself.

In contrast, those who feel the need to declare their importance reveal their insecurity rather than their strength.

Peck’s quiet refusal reminds us that humility is not weakness – it is confidence without arrogance. Genuine greatness is recognized naturally, without self-promotion. As the saying goes, “Character is who you are when no one is watching — fame is who people think you are.”

Who in our world today is like Gregory Peck? Who in our world today is very unlike Gregory Peck? Most important of all, do most people today really care about a person with humility and a person of authentic greatness? Do YOU make YOUR voice heard about those who possess authentic greatness?

IT IS BETTER TO WALK WITH GOD THAN TO WALK WITH A CROWD THAT IS GOING IN THE WRONG DIRECTION!

Today’s Message needs to be heard by a LOT of people. Please do your part and share it.
