There’s something sleeping inside us
Down in the soil of our chests
Its pulse hides behind our pulse
Its breath behind our breath.

When the world is grim, it awakens
And grows to fill up our skin
With kindness and courage undreamed of
It’s the you that’s been waiting within.

What do YOU suspect is sleeping inside you that has awakened in 2026?

LOVE AND COMPASSION ARE THE HIGHEST FORMS OF INTELLIGENCE GIVEN TO US BY GOD!

My Commentary:

This reflection speaks to a quiet mystery within each of us — the presence of something deeper than our ordinary self. It suggests that beneath our daily routines, beneath our fears and limitations, there lies a hidden strength, a goodness waiting to be awakened.

We often discover this “sleeping self” not in comfort, but in difficulty. When life is easy, we can drift along the surface of who we are. But when the world grows heavy — when suffering, uncertainty, or need presses in — something stirs within us. We find reserves of courage we didn’t know we had. We act with kindness that surprises even ourselves. It is as if another part of us steps forward.

From a spiritual perspective, this is more than human resilience. It is the presence of grace — the quiet work of God within us. Scripture reminds us that we are temples of the Holy Spirit, that God dwells not somewhere far away, but within the very “soil of our chests.” What awakens in moments of trial is not something newly created, but something long planted.

The poem reminds us that our truest self is not the one shaped by fear or hesitation, but the one capable of love, courage, and compassion. That self does not force its way forward; it waits. It waits for us to trust it, to allow it, to live from it.

And perhaps that is the invitation here: not to search endlessly outside ourselves for strength, but to recognize what has already been given within.

Because in the end, the person we are meant to become is not someone distant or unattainable.

It is the “you” that has been waiting all along.
