Sometimes we get so caught up in life
that we forget that we don’t always have to be busy.
We don’t always need to be checking our email
or rushing to the next thing.

We need to remind ourselves that it’s okay —
and absolutely necessary – to slow it all down.
To take a break and enjoy nature.

To turn off the tv and simply be together.
To enjoy a game of cards.
To ask our kids what they’re wondering about.
To call our parents.
To watch the sunrise.
To enjoy the smell of a burning candle….

We must never forget to enjoy the little things
because they are never as little as we think.

Nikki Banas

Which of these simple, little things have YOU been doing and enjoying during Lent?
How do YOU plan to keep on doing them as time goes on?

DON’T FORGET TO PRAY TODAY. GOD DIDN’T FORGET TO WAKE YOU UP THIS MORNING!

My Commentary:

In a world that praises speed and productivity, we can easily begin to believe that constant motion equals meaningful living. Our calendars fill, our devices glow, and our attention is pulled in a hundred directions at once. Yet somewhere along the way, we risk losing the quiet moments where life itself is truly experienced.

Slowing down is not laziness; it is wisdom. The human heart was never designed to live at the pace of notifications and deadlines. When we pause  —  to walk outside, to share conversation without distraction, to sit in silence, or to watch a sunrise unfold  —  we rediscover something essential: presence. Life is not only found in achievements but in awareness.

The smallest moments often carry the greatest grace. A child’s question, a parent’s voice on the phone, the warmth of shared laughter, or the gentle glow of a candle reminds us that love grows in ordinary spaces. These moments restore perspective. They teach us that relationships matter more than routines and that being together is often more important than getting somewhere.

Even Jesus stepped away from the crowds to rest, pray, and simply be. His example reminds us that renewal is not optional; it is necessary for a balanced and faithful life.

The “little things” are not interruptions to life  —  they are life itself. When we slow down enough to notice them, we discover that joy has been quietly waiting for us all along.
