This random guy walked up to me while I was at the mall with my grand baby sitting at the table. He said excuse me ma’am. I replied yes sir. He said my grand baby is in a Houston hospital fighting for her life. He said he was always told, if you see a need, plant a seed.

He handed me a 100 dollars and stated he wanted to plant a seed with me for his grand baby. He said ma’am please go get that baby something for Christmas for me from my grand baby, Merry Christmas.

Please keep him and his grand baby lifted in prayer. Just thought I would share this.

My Commentary:

This story gives beautiful meaning to the old saying, “If you see a need, plant a seed.”

Here was a grandfather whose own heart was breaking. His grandchild was in a hospital fighting for life. He could easily have become consumed by fear and sorrow. Instead, he looked across a mall, saw another grandmother with her grandchild, and chose generosity.

That is remarkable.

He was doing something Jesus taught us to do: turn our pain into love. He could not control what was happening in that hospital room. But he could control what he did with his worried heart. He planted a seed of kindness in someone else’s life.

Jesus often spoke about seeds. The Kingdom of God, He said, begins like a tiny mustard seed. Something seemingly insignificant is planted, and God produces something much greater.

That hundred-dollar bill was more than money. It carried a grandfather’s prayer. It said, “While my grandchild is suffering, let another child experience joy.”

Perhaps that is why this story touches us so deeply. The man did not wait until his own life was perfect before helping someone else. He gave while he was hurting.

There is something profoundly Christlike about that.

We may never know what happened to his grandbaby. But we can certainly honor his request and pray for that child, the family, and every frightened parent or grandparent sitting beside a hospital bed.

And we can continue what he started.
See a need.
Plant a seed.

Then trust God with the harvest.

Sometimes the most beautiful flowers of grace grow from seeds planted through our own tears.

Think of a recent time in YOUR life, when YOU saw a need, and YOU planted a seed.

GOD’S LOVE IS LIKE AN OCEAN. YOU CAN SEE ITS BEGINNING, BUT NOT ITS END!
