UNLESS THE EYE CATCH FIRE
Unless the eye catch fire, God will not be seen,
In the light of vision, a divine serene.
Unless the ear catch fire, God will not be heard,
In the sound of whispers, a sacred word.
Unless the tongue catch fire, God will not be named,
In the heat of speech, the holy acclaimed.
Unless the heart catch fire, God will not be loved,
In the warmth of passion, from above.
Unless the mind catch fire, God will not be known,
In the blaze of thought, the seeds are sown.
Embrace this fire, let the spirit ignite,
In every facet, find divine light.
Let every sense awaken, in fervent desire,
Each in its essence, a flicker of fire.
With eyes that see, and ears that hear,
In heart and mind, God’s truth draws near.
In the dance of flames, find your soul’s intent,
In the Holy Spirit’s fire, be wholly spent.
For only through fire, the divine is shown,
In every moment, let God’s light be known.

My Commentary: “Unless the Eye Catch Fire” – A Meditation on Divine Awakening
This poem is a spiritual allegory about the necessity of inner transformation to truly encounter God. Each verse reminds us that the senses and faculties we so often take for granted—sight, hearing, speech, love, and thought—must be spiritually awakened, set on fire, to perceive and reflect the Divine.
The line “Unless the eye catch fire, God will not be seen” tells us that it is not enough to look with natural vision; we must look with illumined eyes, burning with spiritual clarity. The same goes for our ears, tongue, heart, and mind—every part of our being must be spiritually charged, inflamed with holy desire.
Fire, in this poem, represents the Holy Spirit: a cleansing, consuming, transforming force. When the Spirit enters us, it doesn’t leave us as we were—it ignites our very being with purpose, awareness, and passion for God. The poem ends with a call to live fully aflame in every moment, drawing close to God in a dynamic and total way.
The final phrase—“When God comes into your life, God lights a candle in your soul”—echoes the poem’s message with elegant simplicity. God’s presence doesn’t remain external; it becomes a living light within us, guiding us, warming us, and showing the way to deeper love and truth.
My Prayer Reflection:
O God of Fire and Light,
Ignite in me the flame of Your Spirit.
Let my eyes be set ablaze with wonder,
That I may see You in every face and flower.
Let my ears burn with attentiveness,
To catch Your whisper in the quiet moments.
Let my tongue be a spark of truth and praise,
That every word I speak may bless and not harm.
Kindle my heart with Your love, O Lord,
That I may burn with compassion and mercy.
Inflame my mind with divine insight,
That I may understand and proclaim Your mysteries.
Make me wholly Yours, consumed by holy fire.
Let me be a living candle, burning with Your presence.
In every moment of light or shadow,
Let me carry the flame of Your love into the world.
Amen.
