When people ask what I’ve been up to lately,
I usually just smile, shrug, and say,
“Not much.”
Because how do you explain
That you’ve been fighting silent battles
You never had the words to talk about?
How do you tell them you’re learning how to live
After spending so long just surviving?
Behind that simple answer is a quiet overhaul,
Letting go of old versions of myself
I thought I’d be forever,
Burying the past,
And painstakingly rebuilding parts of me
I didn’t even realize were broken.
I’ve been trying to heal a mind
That had forgotten what peace felt like.
I’m learning that healing isn’t a neat, upward climb.
Some days, progress is genuine growth.
Other days, it’s simply getting through without falling apart.
Sometimes healing is waking up to realize
The past wasn’t your first thought,
Or choosing calm
Even when your mind still remembers the noise.
So when they ask, I stick with “Not much.”
Some burdens are simply too heavy for casual conversation,
And how do you explain a war you quietly survived
To someone who only asks about your day?
From Letters I’ll Never Send
My Prayer Reflection:
Dear Jesus,
When people ask me what I’ve been doing lately, I usually smile and say, “Not much.”
But today, Jesus, I want to tell You the truth.
I’ve been fighting battles nobody knows about. I’ve been carrying worries I cannot explain, letting go of dreams that never came true, and saying goodbye to versions of myself I thought would last forever.
Some days, Lord, I’ve been doing little more than trying to hold myself together.
I’ve been learning how to live again, not merely survive. I’ve been trying to forgive, to forget, to accept what I cannot change, and to find peace with what remains.
And Jesus, sometimes I’m tired.
You know the tears I’ve never cried, the fears I’ve never spoken, and the wounds I’ve hidden behind a smile.
So today I’m asking for Your help.
Give me strength when I feel weak. Give me courage when tomorrow frightens me. Help me release yesterday and trust You with tomorrow.
Remind me that healing takes time and that even my smallest steps matter.
And when I feel I’m falling apart, hold me together.
Because, Jesus, when the world asks what I’ve been doing, I may say, “Not much.”
But You know how hard I’ve been trying.
Amen.
