Life can flip in a second. One phone call. One diagnosis. One unexpected moment, and everything changes.
Nothing is guaranteed. Not time. Not health. Not the people you love.
So live fully today. Appreciate deeply. And say yes to every moment and every memory.
What feels normal today may be something you pray for tomorrow.
My Reflection:
Life can change in a heartbeat. One phone call. One diagnosis. One accident. One unexpected goodbye. Suddenly, the life we took for granted becomes the life we desperately wish we could have back.
I know that from personal experience. I was 17 when my mother, just 52 years old, entered the hospital to have a cancerous kidney removed. The doctors assured us she would be fine. She had another healthy kidney. She would survive, they said.
But she didn’t.
One week later, my mother was dead. I had entered that week believing I had many more years with her. Suddenly, there would be no more conversations, no more embraces, no more opportunities to tell her how much I loved her.
That was 65 years ago. And I have never forgotten how quickly life can change.
What we take for granted today may become what we pray for tomorrow.
Jesus understood this. In Luke’s Gospel, He told the story of a wealthy man who built bigger barns, confident that he had many years ahead of him.
But God said, “This very night your life will be demanded of you.”
Jesus wasn’t telling us to live in fear. He was reminding us to live with gratitude. We cannot control how many days we have. But we can choose how we live the days we are given.
Call that friend. Forgive that hurt. Hug your children. Tell someone you love them. Stop postponing kindness. And don’t become so preoccupied with tomorrow that you miss the blessings of today.
Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow is promised to no one. Today is God’s gift.
I would give anything for one more conversation with my mother. I cannot have that.
But I can honor her memory by reminding you of something I learned at 17:
Don’t wait until someone is gone to appreciate the miracle of having them in your life.
Love them today. Tomorrow may be too late.
What can YOU say or do today or this weekend that will not allow you to have regrets someday in the future?
IF GOD ONLY USED PERFECT PEOPLE, NOTHING WOULD GET DONE.
