Daily Treats

I believe in Eucharist as fresh bread,
A daily need, by Jesus fed.
You and I, we need this grace,
To nourish our souls, to find our place.

Every day, we must be aware,
Of hungry souls in need of care.
Not just on screens, both big and small,
But in the Bread of Life, we find our call.

Listen to the hunger deep inside,
A yearning that we cannot hide.
For every day, our souls do crave,
The fresh bread only Jesus gave.

We cannot fixate on digital gleam,
And forget the source of every dream.
Our souls need more than worldly fare,
They need more love and constant care.

So come to the table, come and dine,
On the Bread of Life, the gift divine.
For in each bite, in every prayer,
We find the strength to love and share.

Let our souls be fed, let them grow,
In the love that only Jesus can bestow.
For fresh bread daily, in His name,
Fills our hearts with a holy flame.

Catholics in the United States are celebrating the 10th National Eucharistic Congress July 17th to 21st in Indianapolis, Indiana. This is the first such event in 83 years. Tens of thousands of pilgrims will be participating. All of our souls need to be fed in the love that only Jesus can bestow through the Eucharist.

A Eucharistic Congress was held in Chicago from June 20th to 24th, 1926. It was a watershed moment for Catholics in the United States. With the addition of extra seats, 250,000 faithful souls attended mass at Soldiers’ Field. A choir of 62,000 school children sang at the mass!!

The final day of the Eucharistic Congress was at St. Mary of the Lake Seminary in Mundelein, Illinois, 44 miles North of downtown Chicago. I attended the seminary there for six years. In 1926, 17 years before I was born, as many as a million Catholics had a 2-mile-long Eucharistic procession through the seminary grounds, much of it in a driving rainstorm. That event let America know of the strong presence of American Catholics.

With our prayers, this July 17th to 21st, let us join with the pilgrims in Indianapolis. Let us continue to feast on the Bread of Life that feeds our hungry souls.  Do join YOUR prayers with the pilgrims in Indianapolis.

YOUR MIND WILL ALWAYS BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU FEED IT. FEED IT FAITH. FEED IT TRUTH. FEED IT WITH LOVE.
