The peace Jesus gives to us through the Holy Spirit is more than we can ever imagine:

Peace means the cessation of all warfare, but it also means much more.
Peace means a feeling of inner well-being, but it also means much more.
Peace means an end to psychological tensions, but it also means much more.
Peace means halting interpersonal conflicts, but it also means much more.
Peace means the settling of silence on the soul, but it also means much more.

In Valyermo, California, the Benedictine monks have converted a 400-acre ranch into a religious community called St. Andrew’s Priory. As you enter the grounds, you find that a sign has been posted that reads: “No Hunting Except for Peace.”

The world is hunting for peace.

Thanks to Leonard Sweet.

How are YOU hunting for peace, for yourself and for the world around you?

CAN’T SLEEP?  TALK TO ME!  —  JESUS

My Commentary:

This reflection beautifully reminds us that peace is far more than the absence of war. True peace touches every dimension of life. It is peace between nations, but also peace within the human heart. It is freedom from violence, but also freedom from fear, anxiety, bitterness, and despair.

That is why the Christian understanding of peace is so profound.

When Jesus said, “My peace I give to you,” He was not promising a life without problems. He was offering an inner stability rooted in God’s presence. A person can live amid uncertainty and still possess peace. Likewise, a nation can be free from war and yet remain troubled if justice, compassion, and reconciliation are absent.

The sign at St. Andrew’s Priory — “No Hunting Except for Peace” — captures this truth with both humor and wisdom. Most hunting seeks to TAKE something. The hunt for peace seeks to GIVE something. It calls people to actively pursue understanding, forgiveness, and harmony.

Peace does not simply happen. It must be sought. It must be protected. It must be practiced.

When you listen to the words of Jesus, peacemaking is not optional. Jesus called the peacemakers “blessed” and “children of God.” Every act of forgiveness, every effort at reconciliation, every attempt to heal a broken relationship becomes part of that holy work.

The final line is especially powerful: “The world is hunting for peace.” That is as true today as ever. Nations seek it. Families seek it. Individuals seek it. Beneath many of our struggles lies a longing for peace of mind, peace of heart, and peace with God.

And the Christian faith proclaims that the deepest peace is not merely something we find — it is Someone we encounter. For Christ Himself is called the Prince of Peace. In Him, the restless human heart finally finds its home.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading  “What Makes America America”. Fr. Laz skillfully presents many of the ideals, issues and accomplishments of the American people that set the United States apart from other nations. The book is published at the perfect time for Americans to realize that although we have differences of opinion on many matters, our right to express those differences and ability to  resolve our disagreements make America great.
