WHEN CHRIST DID THE LEAST

In Christ’s life, a curious design unfolds,
A pattern of activity, then passivity, it holds.
From ministry’s start till the night of his strife,
He gives, he heals, and brings new life.

Active, he teaches, prays, and feeds,
Consoles the broken, meets their needs.
He works miracles, the doer’s goal,
While others only play a smaller role.

Then in the garden, he’s taken away,
From active deeds, he cannot sway.
In his passion, he becomes passive, still,
To others’ actions, he bends his will.

Arrested, tried, and led to the cross,
In these final hours, all seems lost.
Yet in his passivity, salvation’s wrought,
Through his suffering, redemption is brought.

Curious and ironic, it stands clear,
When Christ did least, salvation was near.
His passive hours, the most profound,
In helplessness, our hope was found.

WE LIVE AND DIE…..JESUS DIED AND LIVED!

My Commentary:

This poem offers a striking and deeply theological insight: that the greatest work of Christ was accomplished not in His activity — but in His surrender.

We are accustomed to measuring value by what we do. We admire effort, productivity, visible impact. And certainly, the active ministry of Jesus — His teaching, healing, and compassion — reveals the heart of God in motion. He touches lives. He changes lives. He restores dignity to the forgotten.
But my poem gently turns our expectations upside down.

In the Garden and in the hours that follow, Jesus does not act — He yields. He allows Himself to be arrested, judged, and crucified. To the world, it appears as weakness, even failure. Yet this “doing nothing” is, in truth, the deepest act of love ever offered.

It is a powerful reminder that God’s ways are not our ways. What looks like passivity is, in fact, obedience. What seems like defeat becomes victory. What appears to be the least becomes the most.

For us, this carries a quiet but challenging message. There are moments in life when we cannot fix, solve, or change what lies before us. We are asked not to act, but to trust — to endure, to surrender, to place ourselves in God’s hands. These moments can feel empty, even frightening.

Yet it is often in those very moments — when we feel we are doing the least — that God is doing the most within us.

And the final line says it beautifully and memorably:
WE LIVE AND DIE….JESUS DIED AND LIVED!

In that reversal lies the entire Gospel — and our hope.

This is a profound truth of our faith: Yet it is often in those very moments — when we feel we are doing the least — that God is doing the most within us. Please spend some time today reflecting on this truth in YOUR life.
