Fear is loud and bossy.
She can be vicious at times.
And the worst of it is that
she often mingles truth with fiction.
But you must learn to challenge
the stories she feeds you.
You get to be the boss of your thoughts.
You can learn to question
whether or not
everything she tells you
is truth,
whole truth,
and nothing but the truth.
Since you have done the work
to deepen self-awareness
and self-compassion,
when she throws all your past failings
in your face you won’t crumble
because you already know you are imperfect…
AND you are beautiful
and resilient
and worthy
of building a
thoughtfully crafted life.

How has FEAR mingled Truth with Fiction for YOU?
Have YOU challenged the stories FEAR feeds you during these difficult times?
Do YOU crumple when FEAR throws all of your past failings in your face?
When was the last time YOU told yourself that YOU are beautiful and resilient and worthy of building a thoughtfully crafted life?
JESUS LOOKED AT THE CROSS, THEN LOOKED AT YOU AND SAID, “YOU’RE WORTH IT!”
MY COMMENTARY:
This reflection reminds us that fear is one of the loudest voices in the human heart. It speaks quickly, forcefully, and often convincingly. Fear has a way of taking a small truth — perhaps a past mistake, a weakness, or a moment of failure — and weaving it into a much larger story that tells us we are not enough. That is the deception of fear: it mixes a grain of truth with a great deal of fiction.
Yet the message here is deeply hopeful. We are not powerless before fear. We can challenge it. We can question the stories it tells us. Just because a thought appears in our minds does not mean it is the truth. Wisdom grows when we pause and ask, Is this really the whole truth, or just fear speaking loudly again?
Self-awareness and self-compassion become powerful tools in this struggle. When we honestly face our past and accept that we are imperfect — as every human being is — fear loses much of its control over us. Our mistakes no longer define us; they simply become part of our journey of growth.
In the Christian understanding of life, this truth goes even deeper. Our worth does not come from flawless performance but from the fact that we are created and loved by God. Because of that, we are always more than our failures. We are capable of renewal, courage, and resilience.
Fear may shout, but hope speaks with a quieter authority. When we learn to listen to that voice, we discover that we are indeed capable of building a thoughtful, meaningful, and grace-filled life.
