There was a rich Silicon Valley billionaire who was disturbed one day to see a fisherman sitting lazily beside his small boat near the shore.
“Why aren’t you out there fishing?” he asked.
“Because I’ve caught enough fish for today,” said the fisherman.
“Why don’t you catch more fish than you need?” the rich man asked.
“What would I do with them?” he asked.
“You could earn more money,” came the impatient reply, “and buy a better boat so you could go deeper and catch more fish. You could purchase nylon nets, catch even more fish, and make more money. Soon you’d have a fleet of boats and be rich like me.”
The fisherman asked, “Then what would I do?”
“You could sit down and enjoy life,” said the billionaire.
“What do you think I’m doing now?” the fisherman replied.
Are YOUR goals for later in YOUR life all dependent on how much money YOU have?
Is there a lesson in this story for YOU?
WHEN GOD GUIDES YOU, GOD PROVIDES FOR YOU!!
My Commentary:
This story turns worldly logic upside down with a smile. The billionaire assumes that wealth and leisure are the ultimate goals of life, yet the fisherman already lives in the peace the billionaire is still chasing.
The irony is gentle but powerful: the pursuit of “more” often leads us away from the very contentment we seek. The fisherman shows that joy and satisfaction aren’t the rewards of success – they are choices of the heart, available in the simplicity of the present moment.
Jesus once said, “What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul?” True wisdom lies in knowing when enough is enough – and realizing that happiness isn’t found in accumulation, but in appreciation.
