In today’s political climate, we hear endless arguments about policies, parties, power, and winning elections. But somewhere along the way, we seem to have forgotten something fundamental.
Character matters!
Jesus certainly thought so. He warned us about wolves disguised as sheep. “By their fruits you will recognize them.” Not by their speeches. Not by their promises. Not by their popularity. But by their fruits.
Consider a political leader who discovers that a member of their own party has lied or acted dishonestly. Does that leader speak the truth and demand accountability, even at the risk of losing votes? Or remain silent because exposing wrongdoing might hurt the party?
Character is revealed when doing what is right costs us something. The love that counts is the love that costs.
Jesus condemned those who looked righteous on the outside but were filled with greed and dishonesty within. He reminded us that what comes out of a person’s mouth reveals what lives in that person’s heart.
And He asked whether someone dishonest in small matters can be trusted with greater responsibilities.
Political leadership is not simply about getting things done. It is also about HOW things are done — whom we hurt, what truths we sacrifice, and what example we set for our children.
Integrity matters. Honesty matters. Humility matters. Compassion matters. Truth matters.
These are not Republican values or Democratic values. They are human values. And they are Christian values.
We should expect them from our leaders — and demand them of ourselves. Because a nation cannot continually excuse dishonesty, reward cruelty, and celebrate arrogance without eventually paying a terrible price.
Jesus never taught us that winning matters more than goodness. He taught us that the condition of the heart matters more than the appearance of success.
And perhaps the most important question we can ask about any leader is not simply, “What will this person do for me?”
But rather, “What kind of person am I entrusting with power over others?”

As you vote this election, be sure to ask YOURSELF, “What kind of person am I entrusting with power over others?
AT THE END OF THE DAY, THE ONLY THING THAT REALLY MATTERS IS – WHAT DOES GOD THINK OF ME?
